The electric car has been on my mind for the past 3 years. In January of 2007 I bought a Prius to get a taste of the electric-good-life. I love my Prius. But it still isn't enough. I still have to put gas in it. It wasn't until this year that I decided to stop waiting. No more watching documentaries; I decided to build one for myself. More accurately, I'm converting a conventional internal combustion engine vehicle into an ALL electric one.
I purchased the donor vehicle (a used 2007 Toyota Yaris liftback) in August. It's a fun little compact car with a lot of good characteristics for a potential EV. It's lightweight at only 2295 lbs., has a coefficient of drag of 0.29, features electric power steering, and a drive-by-wire throttle. This is the third Toyota I've owned and it is reliable, well engineered and manufactured, efficient, and surprisingly inexpensive for a nearly new car.
This blog will serve as a place for me to document the process and a way to share my experience with an EV conversion (something I have zero experience with). This should be interesting.
